The Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department’s (KVFD) role is to protect families and homes in our wonderful community by providing protection of life, property, and the environment from the effects of fires and hazards and by responding to medical emergencies in a professional and courteous manner.
The Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department’s need for funds for new equipment and supplies has evolved as the Kirkwood community has grown. The primary fundraising event is the KVFD Summer Festival that takes place over the Fourth of July weekend. Donations are however welcome all year. The Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department located at 33540 Loop Road serves the community of Kirkwood, CA, which geographically sits within three counties: Alpine, Amador and El Dorado. The community covers approximately three square miles and serves a permanent population estimated at 135, with a potential population (overnight stops) of approximately 7,008 in the winter months when the ski resort is open.
KVFD is called upon to respond to emergency medical calls, fires, assistance with vehicle accidents, hazardous spills, and search and rescue within the District. Through Mutual Aid agreements with neighboring fire departments, services are also provided east to Carson Pass, and west to Tragedy Springs and reciprocally, our Mutual Aid partners provide services within Kirkwood.
