What is the Board Doing Now?
The KMPUD board in its October meeting addressed the following:
- Property Tax Allocation -- We decided on allocation of our $1.1M property tax revenue, which we receive from Alpine, Amador and El Dorado counties, across seven funds: $320k for KVFD fire department, $250k for Wastewater, $200k for Electric, $196k for Water.
- Wildfire Mitigation Plan -- We approved an updated plan for the overhead electric transmission line, required every two years by the state, which describes our vegetation-management accomplishments and updates maps and organizational changes.
- Equipment and Facility Fan Noise -- Following complaints from residents about sound levels from the wastewater treatment plant and other equipment, the Board approved a request-for-proposal (RFP) process to hire a consultant to measure noise levels, evaluate mitigation alternatives and estimate costs. Prior to issuing the RFP, the Board asked for further conversation with the project vendor.
- Fire Department -- Alpine County fire chief Paul Washam presented an update on staffing and operations after the first month of overseeing KVFD.
Board meetings are public, typically the first Friday afternoon of every month. We invite the Kirkwood community to review the Board information packet or watch videos of the most recent board meeting at KMPUD.com or on YouTube.
To find information about upcoming board and committee meetings, check out the events calendar.
KMPUD is your public utility district, and your input and participation are valuable. We encourage your participation at meetings.

Invasive Species of Kirkwood Valley
There has been a significant increase in invasive weeds observed throughout the Kirkwood area this summer. Invasive weeds can spread quickly and compete with native plants, making early detection and treatment important for protecting Kirkwood’s natural environment.
Some of the invasive weed species that have been identified in the Kirkwood area include:
- Canadian Thistle
- Dalmatian Toadflax
- Diffuse Knapweed
- Spotted Knapweed
- Broadleaved Pepperweed
These are just a few of the invasive species found in the area. You can view the Kirkwood Invasive Weed Info Guide here.
If you see invasive weeds on your property or elsewhere in Kirkwood, please report them to the El Dorado County Department of Agriculture. County staff can help confirm whether the plant is an invasive species and provide guidance on appropriate treatment options, with the property owner’s permission.
When reporting, please provide as much of the following information as possible:
- Location: Street address, GPS coordinates, and/or an aerial map showing where the weeds are located
- Property owner: Name and contact information for the property owner
- Photos: Photos of the weeds, if available
- HOA information: If the weeds are on HOA-owned property, include the HOA Board of Directors’ contact information
Early detection and treatment can help prevent invasive weeds from spreading and protect Kirkwood’s natural environment. If you see something that looks like an invasive weed, please report it.
