KirkwoodVIRTUALSummerFestival
THANK YOU!!

Thank you to everyone that took part in the recent Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department's (KVFD) annual fundraiser, the KirkwoodVIRTUALSummerFestival♥  Once again, the Kirkwood Community came out in force, virtually, to support our fire department and started raising money to be used to purchase a new Type 1 Fire Engine. The Kirkwood Summer Festival Committee is happy to report the grand fundraising total is $114,631! Thank you to everyone who donated and helped us move towards our goal. And, a special thank you to the corporations who contributed matching gifts. Check if your company has a corporate matching program and please submit a request to match. If you missed the virtual event on July 3rd, you can still watch the KVFD Firefighters Video created and directed by documentary filmmaker, Anh Oppenheimer, Kirkwood resident. We look forward to next year's Kirkwood Summer Festival, hopefully in person on the Plaza.

Kirkwood Community Playground
Save the Date - September 5th, 2021

The District is happy to announce that the renovated Kirkwood Community Playground opened on July 3rd! A HUGE thank you to all the donors that made it possible to renovate the playground and purchase new equipment. We'd like to say THANK YOU to all of the donors in person on Sunday, September 5th, 2021 from 2:30pm to 4:00pm at the Community Playground. Stop by with your family and enjoy a treat on us as a thank you from our team.

The old playground was deemed unsafe during an inspection performed in 2019. Replacing the playground became the focus of the Playground Committee. The objective involved upgrading the playground to make it accessible to all community members and improve the existing equipment with smaller, dispersed, independent play structures. A very successful fundraising campaign ensued. Due to the pandemic, the new equipment was not installed last summer. We will use this occasion to unveil a plaque acknowledging the contributors that made the new playground possible.

A special thanks  goes to the KMPUD staff and volunteer contractors who demolished the old playground and built the new one!

NOTE: Please follow CDC COVID-19 guidelines. Masks are preferred so we keep our youngest safe.

KVFD Responds to the Tamarack Fire

Recently, the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) helped our neighbors in Markleeville and Woodfords, responding to the Tamarack Fire. Squad 93, purchased in 2021 with donations received from the Kirkwood Community, continues to prove its usefulness, providing mutual aid to Eastern Alpine Volunteer Fire Department during the critical first week of the Tamarack Fire. The Tamarack Fire was ignited by a lightning strike on July 4th and continues to burn with 78% containment at 68,696 acres.
Pictured below is the plume of smoke from the Tamarack Fire as seen from the Carson Pass on July 18, 2021.
