Re: Propane System Leak Survey

Dear Propane Customer:

In compliance with the Title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations, the District will perform a gas leak survey of the District-owned propane distribution system this summer.  The leak survey requirement applies both District-owned and customer-owned propane distribution pipes and is required every five years.  This leak survey is a contract service performed by a qualified operator using leak detector equipment capable of detecting possible underground leaks.

The cost of surveying customer-owned propane lines, from the property line to the building, is built into the propane rate structure, and the District will arrange to have your propane line surveyed in conjunction with the District survey.  In order to complete the survey, a contracted operator will need to enter your property to inspect the customer-owned portion of the underground propane line on private property.

Should you desire instead to arrange a private leak survey of your propane line, please reply in writing no later than June 22, 2018.  Private leak surveys must be completed by October 31, 2018 to meet the requirements of 49 CFR §192.723; a written report from the qualified operator will be required.
